Chanel No 5 (late 1920s)The best-selling fragrance in the world since the late 1920s, N°5 stands up to fads and the passing of time. In 1954, when a journalist asked her what she wore to bed, Marilyn Monroe answered “Just a few drops of N°5” and the fragrance became legendary. Considered a 20th century icon, the packaging was exhibited in the New York Museum of Modern Art in 1959. A few years later, the bottle even starred in a series of 9 silk-screens by painter Andy Warhol. Famous stars who have featured in N°5 campaigns include: Lauren Hutton, Jean Shrimpton, Catherine Deneuve, Nicole Kidman and the current muse – Brad Pitt.
